Having been writing since she was little and encouraged by her interest to bring children into the world of humor, Xlibris featured author Judy Kozonis Snider seized the opportunity to publish her first book and share it to the world. The result was Goldy’s Baby Socks.
Goldy’s Baby Socks tells of the funny and heartwarming adventures of a family and their adopted cat, Goldy. The story shows the power of caring and kindness. “This will teach children the importance to be kind to animals and each other, as well as the importance for a family to laugh with one another,” Judy said.
When she saw an ad for Xlibris in a writing magazine, she immediately decided to self-publish with Xlibris. “Because it is a part of Random House, a very reputable publishing house, I went to the Xlibris website, as well as ordered information.” She advises other authors who are considering self-publishing to look at various companies. “Make sure they are experienced in publishing children's books, and have a good reputation,” she said.
For Snider, the choice to self-publish has paid off. “I have been delighted with the responses! I have done book signings, author luncheons, but my favorite event is to go into the schools, and read to the kids.”
“They love the book, and laugh at many parts. Children will often walk up to me and say, I love your book, Mrs. Snider!”
Being married for 25 years to a writer and a mother to two wonderful sons, Judy has truly lived up to her life’s philosophy, “You can't stop the wind, but you can adjust your sails.” A licensed clinical social worker in the state of Virginia, Judy and her illustrator, Thomas McAteer, won The Cat Writer's Association award of excellence and the 2006 CWA Muse Award for best children's book. She also holds a Masters degree from Tulane University.
